Upper Extremity Orthosis

Custom and custom-fit orthoses for the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand and thumb.

Upper extremity orthoses can provide support, protection, positioning or controlled movement following injury or surgery, or for conditions affecting strength, muscle tone and joint mobility.

Our Certified Orthotists provide custom and custom-fit upper extremity orthoses for children and adults, with each orthosis selected and designed around the individual’s anatomy, condition and functional goals.

Wrist, Hand & Thumb Orthoses

Custom wrist, hand and thumb orthoses can provide stability, immobilization, positioning or contracture management while allowing movement where appropriate.

Depending on the individual’s needs, designs may include wrist-hand orthoses (WHOs), thumb spicas and custom hand or finger orthoses.

These orthoses may be used for conditions such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, ligament or tendon injuries, nerve injuries, post-operative care and neurological conditions affecting muscle tone or hand positioning.

Elbow & Elbow-Wrist-Hand Orthoses

Elbow orthoses may be used to protect healing structures, limit or assist movement, or provide a progressive stretch to help manage loss of range of motion.

For individuals requiring positioning or support across multiple joints, an elbow-wrist-hand orthosis (EWHO) can extend from the upper arm through the wrist and hand. These custom orthoses may be used for contracture management and neurological conditions affecting muscle tone and upper extremity positioning.

Designs may incorporate adjustable joints or removable components depending on the individual’s needs and treatment goals.

Shoulder Orthoses

Shoulder orthoses can provide stability and positioning following injury or surgery, or for conditions affecting the shoulder joint and surrounding structures.

Depending on the level of support required, options may include slings, shoulder immobilizers, abduction orthoses and other specialized supports. Our Certified Orthotists work with the individual and referring healthcare team to determine the appropriate design and fit.
