Cranial Remolding Orthosis
Cranial Remolding Orthoses (CROs), commonly known as baby helmets, are custom-made helmets designed to gently guide an infant’s natural skull growth toward a more symmetrical head shape.
Cranial remolding treatment may be recommended for babies with:
- Plagiocephaly – asymmetrical flattening on one side of the head
- Brachycephaly – flattening across the back of the head
- Asymmetrical brachycephaly – a combination of overall and one-sided flattening
At Custom Orthotics of London, our Certified Orthotists assess your baby’s head shape using clinical measurements and 3D scanning technology. Not every baby with a flat spot requires a helmet. Depending on your baby’s age, growth and degree of asymmetry, recommendations may include monitoring, repositioning, physiotherapy or cranial remolding treatment.
When a CRO is recommended, each helmet is custom designed for your baby and regularly adjusted as they grow.

Cranial Protective Helmet
Custom protective helmets are designed for children and adults who are at increased risk of head injury due to falls, seizures, self-injurious behaviours or other medical and physical needs. Each helmet is individually designed to provide protection where it is needed most while considering comfort, function and ease of use.
Protective helmets may be recommended for individuals with:
- Frequent or unpredictable falls
- Unstable gait or balance difficulties
- Seizure disorders or epilepsy
- Self-injurious behaviours
- Neurological or developmental conditions that increase the risk of head injury
- Post-operative or other specialized protection needs
Depending on the individual’s needs, custom designs can incorporate additional features such as facial protection, chin and neck protection, specialized padding and custom closures. Bivalve designs can also be created when easier donning and doffing is required.
Our Certified Orthotists will assess the individual’s needs and work with their family and healthcare team to determine the most appropriate protective helmet design.
